What beautiful weather we had for our Fruit Share Fall Jam! The sun was shining, the weather was warm and there was a wonderful cooling breeze. An amazing day for Sept. 27th!
The Fruit Share Fall Jam was an amazing success. The desserts were delicious! It was hard to decide what to try first: the Merry Berry Pie with blueberries, raspberries and strawberries, the apple pie with the beautifully decorated crust, the carrot cake with the cream cheese icing, the apple pie with the struessel topping or any of the other pies and cakes gracing the table. Is your mouth watering yet? Wish you had been there? You'll get another chance next year!
After an awesome welcome by Jessica Wichers, we were treated to some superb entertainment. Seth and Jakobi Heinrichs from the Heinrichs Maneuver played an amazing set during our program. Everyone's toes were tapping while they boys played their Old Time music.
Alexandra Ross did an amazing monologue about growing up on an apple farm in Georgia. She talked about how its hard for us to understand everything that goes into growing an apple when we simply bite into one. In the monologue, her parents wanted to be farmers and live off the land but they realized that they had to give a lot to accomplish this. In the end they realized that you need to work with land, that nothing is given freely. Growing an apple takes more time and energy that we can all imagine.
Alexandra also entertained us with some awesome guitar playing accompanied by a beautiful singing voice.
Meghan Edwards did a wonderful job telling us about an inter-generational connection she made through Fruit Share, with some retired raspberries farmers. She went to a pick at their farm last year and remains friends with them even now. They regularly drop produce off at her apartment for her to enjoy. It is great to hear about such meaningful connections made through Fruit Share Steinbach.
Meghan also works at Agape House, one of the Community Organizations where we regularly drop of harvested fruit. It was great to hear her describe how those donations benefit Agape House and its participants.
To finish off, many thanks for given for all the hard work put in by Fruit Share volunteers who go above and beyond.
It was a magnificent evening. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
