Cherries are a rare, delicious prairie treat. I was lucky enough to go on a cherry pick and came home with a few cups of lovely red berries. In order to properly enjoy a cherry you need to remove the pit (cherry pits have a poisonous toxin in them,) but how do you do that with out making a mess of the cherry?
With a cherry pitter!!
Cherry pitters are a relatively inexpensive kitchen gadget, I purchased mine from Lee Valley. You simply put the cherry in the pitter and push down. The post pushes the pit out the back of the cherry and into the bowl. Quick and easy.
After washing and pitting my cherries I made an absolutely delicious cherry pie that my family gobbled up in short order!
